SOLANA Beach Grocery stores and supermarkets
Wow, aren't you spoiled...it just so happens that highest concentration of coastal North County San Diego supermarkets is right down the street. The only missing is Trader Joes and wouldn't it be nice if they could move Seaside Market & Harvest Ranch a little closer?!
- Vons Supermarket located next door in he Lomas Santa Fe Plaza. This is Vons reinvented flagship supermarket with new designed lighting, faux wood floors and it's own bank and flower shop inside. This Vons has an elaborate bakery churning out freshly baked bagels and artisan loaves each morning. They thoughtfully included their own cafe seating with numerous bistro sets awaiting your morning nosh or bagged lunch.
- Sprouts (aka Henry's, aka Boney's). If you've been in Solana Beach for a month or millenia, most people know that Sprouts tries very hard to win your business with better fruits and veggies than the bigger guys and an elaborate selections of bulk raw foods. Their deli sandwiches are so thick with delicious deli delights that they make your jaw cramp up. Their meat department is loaded with fresh fish and lean choice meats. Their weekly sale item almost always include delectable fruit when in season. I am personally a sucker for their dark chocolate dipped honeycomb crumble.
- Whole Foods Market. Here they come! It took them a while but they finally made it happen and they couldn't have picked a better location. This market is a game changer in that it brings the highest level of food stuffs that one can buy to an area that has largely relied on commuting to Trader Joes in Encinitas, Seaside Market in Cardiff and Jimbo's in Carmel Valley. The Flower Hill Promenade is about to get a lot busier whether it's race season or not, so hold on to your horses as do know that Whole Foods has a more synonymous name among many as 'Whole Paycheck' as you are rarely getting out of there without paying the equivalent to at least part of your paycheck.
- Albertsons. Don't forget about Albertsons, aside from their outstanding fried chicken, they have one of the finest wine selections of ANY local grocer in the area. This is largely due to the fact that the Albertsons chief wine buyer used to work for years in Rancho Santa Fe sleuthing his way to the finest value wines in the world on the palettes of discerning wine aficionado.
